FA2010 Design Studio

Program: Pavilion - Yoga Studio
A pavilion-yoga studio is located on Canal Park, Manhattan, next to West Highway. There are two different cell types and they both have a transition from contraction to relaxation because these are the fundamental elements of yoga. This design studio started with a material study with a paper and my design challenge was to create a structure system and enveloped space, instead of being only skin. The units’ size changed in both scale and shape depending on the basic path and the space’s function. The overall shape was decided by the site’s triangular shape, pedestrian flow and a view of Hudson River.
